Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow

Another 3 feet of snow last week so we could not resist making the trip to Tahoe.  We arrived on Saturday morning to 3 feet of fresh snow.  The weather was stunning to boot.  Squaw valley is the perfect place to go when it has snowed a bunch because it is full of open terrain with lots of off-piste adventure.  This picture was taken from the top of Siberia Express chair lift -  


We stayed at Kings Beach for the first time.  Although the resort was in a time warp - 1960s Reno meets Lake Tahoe - we had the best views in the world for a steal right on Lake Tahoe.  This was the early morning view from the hotel.  Snow all the way to the lake edge with steam rising in the early morning sunshine.

We skiied our butts of on some of the thickest snow I have ever seen.  Suddenly the steep stuff didn't feel so bad when the worst you could do was end up looking like a human snowball.

California Weather - Part II

We woke up this morning to stunning blue skies and crisp air. the best part of California is that any incliment weather doesn't last very long and you get to enjoy the rewards it leaves behind.

California Weather

We have had 6 weeks of glorious sunshine, temperatures in the 70's every day.  The trees had started blooming.  We went to San Francisco last weekend.  Here is how clear the sky was over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Here was the Golden Gate bridge one hour later on our way back from lunch at Tiburon. 

 The week deteriorated from there.  We have had record rains and flooding.  76 inches of snow fell in the Sierras in one night.  And we woke up this morning to snow on the mountains.

 Not being wimps, we loaded the bikes on the car and heade for the hills.  This is the start of the Saratoga Gap trail.  Only about 6 miles from our house at about 2,000 feet.

As soon as we got there the snow started coming down heavy.

 If feels like a winter wonderland

Thank goodness Fred had snow chains on the bike.

 Normally we are cycling through brilliant green fields in February.  What a treat.
