Lake Waikaremoana

This is not an advertisment for the tellytubbies. We took a break from work and thesis to go backpacking in Lake Waikaeremoana. In maori it means "the lake where it never stops pissing down rain on you but if you could see it then you would agree that it is one of the prettiest walks in the Land of the Long White Cloud". The rain waited until after the water taxi had dropped us off at the beginning of the walk with no way of getting home other than to trek out. In the 5 minutes it took us to dig out our ponchos on we were already soaked to the skin.

In theory this is the view from over the lake looking down
I hate this f*&%ing weather - when do we get to the hut!
Telly Tubbies Po and Laa-Laa visit Lake Waikaremoana
How to warm yourself up in the woods - blow really hard at a pile of sticks

At the hut - The Germans, the Canadians, the sheep farmers and the O'Learys.
Crossing a stream :-How come it seemed a lot worse in real life.

At the end of the trek - The Koro Koro falls day 3 - Finally the fog lifts and we get to see the lake.

A well deserved nap at the end of 4 days walking.
